Friar Watch

Rather than look at the whole game I want to focus on what Maddux does on the first pitch of an at bat.

Legend:
Blue = ball
Orange = called strike
White = foul
Red = Swinging strike
Green = In play

Amazing. 3 of those 4 balls wide to the left were in the 1st inning, one was in the 3rd. The wide right ball was also in the 3rd. After he got into a groove in the fourth he didn’t throw another first pitch ball until the 7th, it’s the one in the middle of the bottom edge of the strike zone.

If pitch charts were works of art Maddux would have his own wing in the museum.
