Game notes: Reds at Petco

Greg Maddux: Game of the year so far. A 96 pitch complete game, 1 run, 5 hits, 5 Ks, no walks. Only one three ball count all night long and that was to the last hitter. A no hitter through 5 innings. Tied a Padre record with 3 sacrifice bunts in one game. The Professor was absolutely brilliant tonight, it was truly a joy to watch.

What made it even better was Kevin Kouzmanoff was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and Mike Cameron was 2 for 4. If these guys actually get hot this team will finally start scoring some runs.

Best moment: After the game David Wells was rubbing his left arm against Maddux’s right arm, trying to get some of the magic to rub off. We’ll find out tomorrow if it worked.

    Great game, indeed, Anthony.
Geoff and I missed the Wells antique. That must have been funny on the telly.

Where’s the chart? We were trying to figure out if Maddux was getting the called strike more than Belisle. Maddux was definitely on his game and I’d love to see his pitching chart to some of the Reds hitters when he froze them with a called strike three or he broke their bats.

I’ll post somethign during tonight’s game. A quick look at the data shows some strange calls. A lot of pitches in the zone were called balls.

Thanks, Anthony. Looking forward to it.

One other thing, is it true that Kouzmanoff’s ABs are better compared to early in the season or it’s merely our perceptions?

I know you did one of his AB, and thought it’d be interesting to see his progress. Just an idea.
