Game notes: Padres at Cubs

Greg Maddux: Started off strong with the usual good movement and location but the Cubs caught up to him in the 5th and Bud Black opted to go with Cla Meredith to start the 6th. 3 runs in 5 innings should have been enough for the W given the bullpen performance and number of […]

Chris Young: Young just didn’t have it tonight. He wasn’t able to locate his fastball and his curve isn’t developed enough to bail him out when that happens.
Here’s a chart of his fastballs tonight.
White Triangles = ball
Red Circles = foul
Yellow Circle = Hit in play
Red Triangle = Called Strike

A lot of high fastballs but […]

4/11 Game notes: Giants at Petco

Greg Maddux: Maddux was brilliant tonight. Incredible movement on his fastball, locating perfectly, freezing guys for called third strikes. He’s going to have a great year pitching in Petco.
Cla Meredith: Sick. A 1 pitch grounder to Klesko, a 3 pitch K to Molina who waved at a frisbee 3 feet out of […]

David Wells: The epitome of the wily veteran, Wells relies on excellent control and a variety of breaking balls to keep hitters off balance. Wells gave the Padres 6 2/3 strong innings despite another night of questionable umpiring. Matt Vasgersian mentioned that Wells threw 90+ pitches and only 4 of those were swung […]

Clay Hensley: The TV radar gun has shown Clay as high as 93 mph on his fastball. I don’t know how accurate that is but he definitely has the sinking action working for him. A rough first inning as he gave up a booming double to Bonds but he settled down after that.
Hensley […]
